Asklepios Pulmonology Clinic Gauting

ASKLEPIOS FACHKLINIKEN MUNCHEN-GAUTING – Asklepios Gauting pulmonology clinic is a hospital of Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and works in tandem with the Interdisciplinary Pulmonology Center, which is actively engaged in research in the field of diagnosis and treatment of lung pathologies. The clinic is a member of a certified center for the treatment of benign/malignant lung tumors in Munich.

The specialized clinic has several departments:

• pulmonology and thoracic surgery;
• radiology and obstructive lung diseases;
• anesthesiology and infectious diseases;
• oncology and bronchoscopy;
• pathology and nuclear medicine.

A sleep laboratory and a geriatric primary rehabilitation department are successfully functioning. Asklepios Munich-Gauting Pulmonology Center has more than 250 beds – this is the largest center for the treatment of lung diseases in Germany.

Pulmonology Department

Specializes in rapid diagnosis, even if the patient arrives without preliminary medical reports or with questionable diagnoses. After confirming the diagnosis, doctors select treatment individually and perform it on site or after transferring the patient to another department.

Since 2020, Wolfgang Gesierich has been heading the pulmonology department.

Pulmonological Oncology Department

Lung cancer is the most common type of malignant process in the world. The disease is characterized by difficult diagnosis and unfavorable prognosis. At the pulmonology clinic in Germany, great attention is paid to diagnosis – during standard procedures, lung cancer can be detected at an early stage, which allows doctors to make positive prognoses after treatment.

Chief physician P.D. Niels Reinmuth – in 2021 he was named "Best Lung Cancer Doctor". He is included in the FOCUS top list and is considered an absolute specialist in his field. In one year, more than 700 patients with various types of lung cancer are treated in the pulmonological oncology department:

• non-small cell cancer and pleural cancer;
• small cell and malignant pleural mesothelioma.

Cytostatic chemotherapy is most often used in treatment.

Thoracic Surgery Department

Doctors perform minimally invasive operations that imply rapid patient recovery. Weekly interdisciplinary conferences are held where pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, radiation therapists and oncologists make decisions regarding the treatment of a specific patient.

Radiology Department

This is about diagnostics that allows doctors to see even what is hidden during standard examinations. The clinic has a new high-power CT machine that can obtain a complete picture of a specific patient's lung condition within a few seconds. Using modern imaging methods, radiology specialists help thoracic surgeons and oncologists quickly determine the diagnosis and make adequate prescriptions. All procedures are adapted to the latest scientific standards.

Foundation of the Center for Interstitial and Rare Lung Diseases

The new Center for Interstitial and Rare Lung Diseases, abbreviated ZISLE, is the result of cooperation between Asklepios specialized clinics in Munich-Gauting and LMU Klinikum. By combining the competencies of both clinics, patients should come to a suitable diagnosis faster and more reliably and gain access to clinical research.

The clinic's interdisciplinary team, consisting of pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, radiologists, pathologists and psychologists, offers complete diagnosis and therapy for the full spectrum of rare lung diseases.
