Kidney Treatment in Germany

kidney pain

Features of kidney diseases – the early stage proceeds without symptoms, which makes diagnosis difficult and leads to rapid transformation of the acute form of the disease into chronic. Complications of neglected pathologies can make a person disabled and pose a real threat to the patient's life – the kidneys stop functioning normally, which makes hemodialysis vital. Kidney treatment in Germany – a real chance to recover and continue to live actively for many years without regular medical procedures.

Diagnosis of Kidney Diseases in German Clinics

Nephrological diseases require in-depth diagnostics, and German doctors use laboratory and instrumental examination methods in their work:

  • general analysis and bacteriological examination of urine;
  • assessment of lipoprotein levels in the blood;
  • X-ray examination of problem organs;
  • urinalysis;
  • blood test with leukocyte formula;
  • ultrasound of abdominal organs and retroperitoneal space;
  • blood biochemistry – the concentration level of bilirubin, urea, creatinine, uric acid, total protein and transaminase is determined;
  • computed tomography;
  • retrograde pyelography;
  • radioisotope scintigraphy;
  • immunological studies.

If there is a suspicion of a malignant tumor in the organ tissue, a biopsy is performed – using special instruments, a fragment of the formation is taken and sent for histological examination to the laboratory.

Diagnostics in German clinics is carried out within a few days, then treatment is prescribed to the patient.

Diagnoses Doctors Face

Most often the following are diagnosed in clinics:

  • chronic renal failure;
  • urolithiasis;
  • malignant and benign neoplasms in kidney tissue;
  • chronic inflammation of the kidneys and excretory system;
  • polycystic kidney disease.

Nephrology – is an extensive field of medicine, urologists work not only with kidney diseases but also with pathologies of other parts of the urogenital system – prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate gland), urethral stricture (pathological narrowing of the urethra).

Methods of Kidney Disease Treatment in Germany

Treatment in German clinics is carried out using therapeutic or surgical methods. When choosing, the doctor focuses not only on the diagnosis but also on the stage of pathology development, the presence of concomitant diseases, and the general condition of the patient. Preference is given to drug therapy, which may include the following prescriptions:

  • antibacterial drugs;
  • glucocorticosteroids;
  • anti-inflammatory drugs;
  • anticoagulants;
  • ACE inhibitors;
  • cytostatics.

Symptomatic therapy is also necessarily prescribed, which is selected individually and aimed at alleviating the patient's condition – painkillers, antipyretics, antispasmodics. If a patient with renal failure is to be treated, doctors simultaneously prescribe hemosorption and plasmapheresis – such pathology is extremely difficult to control with medications, so severe complications must be prevented.

Surgical treatment in German clinics includes:

  • nephrotomy – kidney removal, which is resorted to extremely rarely;
  • lithotripsy – crushing stones remotely;
  • pyelotomy – the kidney is incised and stones are manually removed.

Operations are performed using minimally invasive methods, laparoscopy is often used – for removing stones from the renal pelvis, treating traumatic injuries, revision of the retroperitoneal space.

Special attention is paid to kidney transplant operations, which are used for congenital pathologies, severe forms of insufficiency and injuries. The process has been literally perfected by German surgeons.

Rehabilitation of patients after surgical treatment also takes place within the clinic walls under the control of medical staff. In the early recovery period, supportive therapy is prescribed to prevent the development of infectious lesions.
