For those wishing to receive treatment in Germany, the cost of treatment is one of the first questions. Prices for treatment in German clinics are calculated according to the base rates approved by the German Ministry of Health from the DRG directory and the fee schedule for doctors (GOÄ). When calculating treatment costs according to DRG rates, both the cost of medical services and the cost of medications and necessary materials are taken into account.
However, when serving foreign patients, some German clinics introduce additional increase coefficients (using a higher base rate) - as they do not have sufficient quotas for treating foreign patients and are forced to accept them for treatment while refusing German patients with private health insurance. The increase coefficients provide German clinics with additional income - which is invested in developing the clinic's medical base, purchasing new equipment, and renovating rooms.
Many German clinics are simply not ready to serve foreign patients, and when preparing a treatment estimate, they try to account for all possible risks and additional expenses, which significantly increases the price of treatment in Germany.
Since 2014, Doktor München has been cooperating with two leading clinic groups: the German Orthopedic Association - OrthoLiga and the German Oncology Association - OnkoUnion. By contacting these institutions, patients can receive several treatment cost offers from various clinics. For example, the cost of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction at a private clinic in Munich with Professor Strobel starts from 14,000 Euros, while the same operation with Professor Strobel at the OrthoLiga clinic in Plattling will cost 8,500 €.
Thus, with a consistently high level of medical treatment, the patient has the opportunity to choose more affordable service (regional clinics always have a lower base rate than Munich clinics, the patient can be accommodated in either a single or double room, etc.).
