Shoulder Joint Treatment in Germany

Pain, limited shoulder mobility, inability to normally raise or move the arm to the side, dress independently — these and other signs indicate problems with the shoulder joint. This part of the body carries a relatively small load, but often suffers due to injuries and chronic pathological processes. Shoulder treatment in Germany is carried out using the most advanced surgical techniques.

Why Surgery May Be Required?

The surgical method is effectively used for injuries of the joint and adjacent structures, as well as in cases of pathologies where conservative therapy is ineffective.

Patients with various shoulder joint pathologies seek help from the best German orthopedic traumatologists:

  • rotator cuff tear;
  • joint dislocation;
  • impingement syndrome;
  • damage to muscles and tendons adjacent to the shoulder;
  • arthrosis and arthritis;
  • shoulder joint instability;
  • frozen shoulder syndrome;
  • detachment of the joint capsule and labrum from the shoulder joint socket.

There are many reasons why the structure and function of the joint deteriorates. Most often, problems arise due to:

  • muscle and ligament injuries;
  • fracture or dislocation;
  • joint inflammation;
  • post-traumatic circulatory disorders.

German orthopedists and traumatologists do everything possible to quickly and painlessly help get rid of shoulder problems, return to normal life and sports.

Methods

German doctors choose the shoulder treatment method on a strictly individual basis. They are guided by the examination results obtained, taking into account the general condition of the patient seeking help.

Priority is given to minimally invasive treatment methods that are performed without large incisions, with minimal tissue trauma and a short recovery period. In some cases, when the shoulder joint is severely damaged, it is necessary to perform surgery to replace it (arthroplasty).

Joint Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy

Shoulder arthroscopy — is a minimally invasive method that is most often used to treat:

  • dislocation;
  • impingement syndrome;
  • cartilage damage;
  • synovial membrane diseases;
  • muscle and tendon injuries;
  • loose body in the joint.

Arthroscopy is used to remove bone and cartilage fragments, osteophytes.

Arthroscopy is a gentle procedure, it is performed under local or general anesthesia. The doctor makes a small incision through which he inserts an arthroscope equipped with a video camera into the joint (the image from it is transmitted to a monitor in the operating room).

The joint is filled with carbon dioxide gas, the surgeon performs a revision of the joint and adjacent structures. If necessary, the doctor makes several more punctures and introduces manipulators through them. The operation differs from other surgical treatment methods in that the doctor has the ability to move the shoulder and examine it in motion. At the end of the operation, the surgeon removes the instruments from the joint, sutures the incisions and covers them with a sterile bandage.

Joint arthroscopy involves less risk and causes less discomfort upon completion than open joint surgery.

Joint Replacement

In case of significant damage to the shoulder joint at the last stage of arthrosis, joint replacement is performed. The technique of shoulder joint replacement surgery has been perfected by German doctors.

High-quality implants are used to replace the damaged articulation, allowing maximum bone preservation.  They last a long time — in 90% of cases, 10 years after surgery, endoimplants function flawlessly. Modern implants are designed so that if necessary, it is possible to perform partial component replacement or reconstruction, avoiding replacement of the entire artificial joint.

Shoulder joint replacement surgery is performed much less frequently (20-30 times) than knee or hip replacement. That is why it is necessary that it be performed in a specialized clinic.

After shoulder joint replacement surgery, the patient stays in the clinic for 4-5 days. Then a rehabilitation course is prescribed. It takes up to 4 weeks, during which full shoulder mobility is restored. Sports activities are allowed after 3 months.

Regenerative Shoulder Joint Restoration Method — MIBRAR

In case of damage to tendons, joint surface, muscles, the method of micro invasive biological regenerative reconstruction (MIBRAR) is used.

Treatment using the MIBRAR method involves the introduction of autologous regenerative concentrate (AHK®). It is obtained from the patient's own venous blood (AHK®) or adipose tissue (ALK®).

The specially prepared concentrate is injected into the damaged areas of the shoulder joint using endoscopic equipment, which triggers the process of natural restoration of destroyed or destructive tissues.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, 2-3 hours after the end of the operation the patient can leave the clinic.

Shoulder Joint Restoration Results Using MIBRAR Method

before and after surgery image

Image on the left: condition before surgery. Complete traumatic dislocation of the shoulder joint. Bony Bankart. Extensive labrum damage. Rupture of the superior glenohumeral ligament. Partial tear of supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendons. Rupture at the base of the biceps tendon.

Image on the right: condition 5 years after surgery. Complete regenerative reconstruction of the shoulder joint. Hill-Sachs defect and bony Bankart are not visualized.

The MIBRAR procedure stops degeneration of the joint and surrounding structures, restores their integrity and function.

Full recovery occurs within 2-3 months, normal joint mobility returns within 1 month after treatment using the MIBRAR method.

Prices

The cost of shoulder joint treatment is determined individually. Doctors receive diagnostic data from patients conducted in Moscow or other cities of Russia, create a treatment program and calculate the preliminary cost.

Based on the proposed treatment price, the patient can choose the most suitable clinic.

It is important to know that in all German clinics the level of treatment and service is equally high, but the cost can vary significantly. Upon the patient's arrival at the clinic and after examination, the final price calculation is made — it can vary upward or downward from the previously stated amount.
