The number of diseases of the pulmonary system has increased significantly over several decades and has become second only to cardiovascular diseases. The professor has twenty years of experience as the head physician of the thoracic surgical department of the University of Heidelberg, which is significant in Europe.

Professional activities

The main focus of Hans Hofmann's work is on the possibility of performing minimally invasive surgical operations for cancer, as well as the introduction of immunotherapy even in the early stages of lung cancer. The conditions and capabilities of the clinic allow these procedures to be performed with maximum efficiency.

The professor also plans to fight pulmonary emphysema. Although this disease is not classified as cancer, its outcome is usually just as sad: severe shortness of breath and loss of stability. No treatment as such was previously offered. Using minimally invasive endoscopic surgery, it is possible to reduce the size of the lungs, and individually tailored therapy for each patient brings excellent and encouraging treatment results.

Hans Hofmann believes that each patient needs an individual approach. Many have concomitant chronic diseases, so only in close cooperation with a pulmonologist, oncologist, therapist, and radiologist can the risks for the patient be minimized.

Thorough diagnosis

The professor believes that patients should be firmly confident in the correctness of their diagnoses and treatment strategies. Therefore, he works closely with fellow residents.

Let's give a simple example. High-sensitivity x-rays often reveal small lesions in the lungs. But it doesn't have to be cancer. Previously, in such cases, surgery was performed to prevent cancer, but this is no longer done. It is necessary to first conduct a thorough diagnosis to make an accurate diagnosis. This will save the patient from unnecessary worries.
